What Is The Best Digital Camera Brand?

If ever there was a controversial question amongst the hordes of digital camera enthusiasts, it has to be "What is the best digital camera brand?". Sometimes referred to as "What is the best brand of digital camera to buy?", but not to be confused with "What is the best camera to buy?". Because everyone knows that regular (film) cameras are far superior to digital cameras. Hang on a sec, or was that the other way around? Who can keep track these days? Now before I digress too far from the topic, lets take a look at that age old battle, and see if we can determine which brand is best.

First things first, in the spirit of full disclosure, I need to declare that I do in fact own several cameras. They represent a variety of brands. I have two Canons, a Fuji, and a Kodak. I must confess, that I am somewhat partial to Canon, but I'll try not to let that cloud any editorial comments I may subsequently make.

If digital camera sales were any indication of what the best brand was, then according to Amazon.com Canon would be a clear winner. As I write this, Canon manufactures 18 of the top 25 bestselling cameras on their best seller list. In addition, Canon holds 9 of the top 10 spots, with the top 3 being the PowerShot A570 IS, the PowerShot SD1000 Digital Elph, and the PowerShot SD850. Sharing the top 11 spots with Canon are 2 of the Pure Video manufactured Flip Video cameras. Nikon has 2 cameras in the top 25 including the Nikon D40, and the Nikon D300. Panasonic sneaks in with a couple of their Lumix models, specifically the DMC-TZ3K and the DMC-TZ3A. And finishing in a strong 25th spot, that old stalwart Kodak with the Easyshare Z812IS.

Of course being popular, or the best seller does not the best brand make. It simply means you have the best salesmanship. In that world, Canon seems to be having the most success. How exactly would we determine the best brand? Best service, best design, best features, best customer support, best images, and best user experience are all valid traits. Perhaps a critical / scientific /empirical examination of all cameras models by manufacturer would be in order. Let's see if we can aggregate a lot of the work already done by a couple of camera review sites who take the above traits into consideration.

A perusal of one top camera review site under their 5 star category, show 39 Canon cameras, 18 Sony cameras, 17 Nikon cameras, 6 Fuji cameras, 5 Olympus cameras, 5 Panasonic cameras, 3 Pentax cameras, and 1 Konica camera. A second camera review site under their top 103 cameras showed 46 Canon cameras, 21 Sony cameras, 20 Nikon cameras, 5 Pentax cameras, 3 Fuji cameras, 2 Samsung cameras, 2 Panasonic cameras, 2 Kodak cameras, 1 Konica camera, and 1 Casio camera. If you total all that up, the top 3 end up being Canon with 85, Sony a distant second with 39, and Nikon a very close third with 37. Everyone else had less than 10 top rated cameras.

Modern technology offers a lot to a general consumer. However to keep pace with it one may need to carry a lot of devices, like MP3 player, laptop, GPS receiver, etc. What if all those could be combined in one device, which would be at the same time small enough to fit into the pocket. That is exactly what some new Smartphones and PDAs are. But even if your mobile phone does not have some of those features there is a way to add them. There are third party manufacturers which make external GPS receivers, WiFi cards and many other extensions that can be connected to the phone via the mini (micro) SD slot or Bluetooth.

SD (Secure Digital) is the most common standard used for the data storage, now its smaller modifications - mini or micro SD are used in mobile phones. But there are also other accessories, apart from the data storage, that can be connected to the mini (micro) SD slot of the phone. The leader on this market is SPECTEC. SPECTEC offers the following cards and extensions:
* WiFi cards - adds WiFi to PDA
* GPS cards - adds GPS Receiver to PDA
* Bluetooth cards - adds Bluetooth to PDA
* Video-Out - enables PDA to display screen over projector or external monitor

As one can see above, one can add WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, and even video output to a PDA. Suppose, you are going to a business meeting. Just load all your documents into your PDA, then connect the Video-Out adaptor and you can impress your partners making a presentation from your phone. There are also some other extension cards that enable PDA to implement home automation, to monitor real time health condition and even more. So, if you need one of those functions, just insert the respective card and here you go!

Even if there is no SD slot in your phone, you can use some extensions that connect to the phone via Bluetooth. For example, SPECTEC offers a Bluetooth GPS receiver. This has also the advantage that the SD slot remains available for the storage card.

Some WiFi cards can also store data. So, one can add WiFi to PDA while still having up to 2 GB of data storage in the card. The only drawback with such cards is that they have non-standard size, so that the card protrudes out of the SD slot. Because of that one cannot keep the card permanently in the phone, however one can easily insert it when WiFi connection is needed.

SPECTEC do not sell their products online, however, one can easily find many online resellers on the Web. There are also other manufacturers of such cards. A good place to search for them is at Amazon.com. So, if you have an older device that does not support all of the new features or, if you have some very special idea in mind, just search the Web for the appropriate extension card to empower your phone the way you want.

Which is Better For Your Digital Piano - USB Outlet Or SD Memory Card Slot?

Which is Better For Your Digital Piano - USB Outlet Or SD Memory Card Slot?

There are different ways to save recorded music on a digital piano. Some pianos have built-in space for you to record songs. This works well if you only use that one digital piano, or if you don't need to take the recorded file to another keyboard.

Of course you could just hook up through a MIDI device and store the information on a computer. You could save as many songs as your computer would hold. You could also email the file to wherever you needed it.

But what if you don't want to go through the process of putting your recorded piece of music onto a PC? What if you just wanted to record a lot of songs and put them into a portable device that could fit in the palm of your hand?

Then you'll want to get a digital piano with a USB outlet or an SD Memory Card Slot.

You are familiar with USB outlets on your computer. Some digital pianos have a USB hook up so you can attach a flash drive to save your recorded songs. The only limit to how much music you can record and save is based on the memory capacity of your USB flash drive. This is a great way to get your recordings from your digital piano into an instantly portable format. You can take it with you wherever you go, hook it up to a different digital piano that has a USB outlet, or transfer it to any computer without the headache of cables and wires that hook the digital piano up to the computer.

Another plus to using a USB outlet on your digital piano is that USB is very common on computers. Every computer has them. So if you save your digital piano recordings on a flash drive you are pretty much guaranteed to be able to put them onto any computer.

Please note that some digital pianos will say they have a USB hook up, but it might not support a flash drive. This is because there are 2 types of USB connections on digital pianos. The first is a USB connection to a host. This connection allows you to plug a cable into your digital piano and hook that cable into a USB outlet on a computer. The second connection is USB to device. This allows you to directly plug a flash drive into your digital piano. If you want instant portability, then choose USB to device.

Some digital pianos use SD memory card slots. SD memory cards are common, and they are used in cameras, video game consoles, cell phones, and other electronic devices. The most popular memory cards are by SanDisk. These disks are little at only 32 millimeters x 24 millimeters, but they can hold a lot of information. Right now the standard SD memory card will hold up to 4GB. So you will have plenty of room to record a lot of music off your digital piano.

Casio has some models that use an SD memory card outlet. A few models that use this are the PX575R, PX200, PX320, PX800, and others.

The pros of using an SD memory card are that it gives you instant portability of your recorded music in a device that is very small. The downside of it is that if you want to save the music from an SD card to a computer, it is less likely for the computer to have an SD memory card outlet. Many computers do have them, it's just not as common as a USB port on a computer.

Another downside is that the SD card is so small it can be easily lost. Some USB flash drives come on key chains, and even the ones that don't are still big enough to not be easily lost. It may not be a problem if you use the SD memory card in your digital camera, since the camera is big enough to not be lost. But if you use the SD memory card to save music on your digital piano, you will pull the card out of the piano and carry it alone.

The best way to handle this is to put the slim SD memory card in your wallet. It might not be the best solution, but it works for me. There is another solution to this portability problem. When you use an SD card adaptor that allows the SD card to be plugged into a USB port, the entire device is the size of a USB flash drive. So it's easier to keep up with. SanDisk makes these adaptors.

So if USB ports are more common on computers than SD memory card outlets, then why would anyone choose the SD memory card outlet as the preferred method for saving data on their digital piano?

It depends on what you want you use your digital piano for. This will affect which one is best for you: Whether you want other people to bring their files to your house to play through your digital piano or you want to take your files to someone else's digital piano. Let me explain.

If you only have a USB outlet on your digital piano and someone brings you an SD card, you can still plug their SD card into your digital piano with an SD adaptor. If you only have an SD outlet and someone brings you a USB flash drive there's no way to play it in your digital piano.

So the USB outlet lets you accept other people's recorded files onto your digital piano the best. But is that the most important thing for you? Most of the time you will use your digital piano to record music so you can take it somewhere else, such as a different computer or keyboard outside your home. In that case if you have an SD card you could play your files on a friend's digital piano that has an SD outlet or a USB outlet (through the SD/USB adaptor).

I think most people would use their digital piano for the purpose of taking the recorded files out of their home to a different place. In these cases SD cards give you the most flexibility. But if your needs are for your digital piano to be as flexible as possible in accepting other people's portable files, then the USB port is the best.

Kodak printers are a good option if you are going to buy a printer. It could be one of the options you should definitely consider. However, like all other printer models even Kodak printers are prone to some common printer, as well as, cartridge problems. Troubleshooting these problems is fairly easy.

Here is a list of problems that you might face and we have also offered their solutions.

The Power LED shows no Illumination; the Printer does not power On

This is a common enough problem. The possible cause of this occurrence could be that the cables and cords are not connected as securely as they must be. You must make sure that the cords are connected in accordance with the instructions. Another reason for this could be the fact that the printer power is not 'on'. You might just have turned the switch in the 'I' position.

The Printing Process is Slow

Another common problem and the culprit in this case might be the size of the image file. This could take up a lot of time for the printer to process the PostScript file. Thus, the only solution in this case is to show some patience. At times, the slow printing process is a result of the printer getting warm. The best thing to do in such a case would be to turn off the printer and allow it to cool down. Also, you could think about changing the printer location and shifting it to a cooler location.

No Action Taken When Job is Sent

The possible solution to this problem could be to check and recheck whether the job is actually being processed or not. Moreover, you must check whether you have set the printer in the correct mode for printing. You must use the Raster Mode while using the export module and all other types of printing can be done by choosing the PostScript mode.

The Processing is Complete, No Print

This is another common problem that affects the Kodak Printer. This is an ink cartridge related problem and not a general printer problem. All you need to do is clean the head of the ink cartridges. Accumulated dust or dried color might prevent the printing process from taking place; hence you must clean the head of the cartridges. All Kodak printers come with a set of tools that not only clean the cartridge heads but align them as well.

Printer's Not Working after Cartridge Change

Once the ink in the cartridge is finished, you either need to change the cartridges or get them refilled with ink. Whatever, the case maybe, you will have to take the cartridges out of the printer and put them back in place. Some times, you will find that the printer does not print, even though the cartridge ink is full. The problem could be sorted out by checking if the cartridges are securely in place. Secure it, and the printer is sure to start working.

It includes two basic types of storage: External memory of SD/MMC cards and 16 MB of Internal memory. Thus each photo or video you capture using this camera is either stored on SD/MMC card or its internal memory. An SD card is a secure device or disk, similar to the SIM card in a cell phone. It looks very similar to a SIM card, but it is much smaller. The SD card in a digital camera or iPod or other multimedia device allows you to take photos, video, download music and ringtones, and other media matters and files to your computer. You can save a certain amount of data on your SD card, and when it is full, you can download the data onto your PC, to publish to the web or just save those family pictures to your hard drive or to a writeable CD.

On any media device with an SD card(memory card), there is an option to preview all the files and decide which to keep, and which to delete. Sometimes files downloaded from the Internet can be corrupted or contain viruses, so you get file that doesn't work properly. It won't play that hot new song you downloaded, or it won't show all the video you took of your cousin's last drunken escapade into the neighbor's pond. This is extremely frustrating. You paid for that song. You are dying to blackmail your cousin with that video. (You had to stay sober all night to catch him skinny-dipping in the neighbor's pond!) When you accidentally delete a file you wanted to save, or the file was corrupted for some reason, what do you do? How are you supposed to fix the problem and undelete SD Card files?

Relax, don't panic. There is a way to undelete everything on your SD card. You can download Memory card (SD Card) recovery software for this in a few places on the web, but your best bet is to pay for software specifically meant for the platform or operating system on your PC. The recovery software will open a Wizard-style interface when you open the program, and allow you to preview all the files you wanted to keep, restore all the ones you want to restore. You can even restore files and uncorrupted files already on the hard drive of your PC. Undelete SD Card files so your music will play, recovering the blackmail video of your cousin in the neighbor's pond, uncorrupting files you already have on your hard drive, and fixing any of your other storage cards and memory cards, including XD cards, USB drives, etc.

You can recover any lost files you want, undelete any memory card files you want and save them to your computer or to a writable CD. Recovered files work as well as if they had never been accidentally deleted or corrupted in any way, even those that were corrupted by a virus. Don't despair; you can get all your media files and document files back onto your computer or disk for easy access with the right software!
